Tom's Verdict
🐻 Bottled by Bears is one of those games where I found myself enjoying it before I had really done very much at all. There is something wonderfully relaxing about watching this little family of bears going about their lives, looking after their bees and gradually building up their honey-making operation. The gorgeous imagery immediately caught my attention, but it was the gentle atmosphere that made me want to stay.
🍯 This is very much an idle game, and it understands that sometimes simply watching things happen can be part of the enjoyment. I didn't feel as though I needed to rush through anything or constantly search for the next thing to click. I could make progress, see what was happening and then just sit back for a while and enjoy the bears and bees doing their thing.
And honestly, I could have watched them for hours.
🐝 There is something particularly lovely about the combination of bears, bees and honey. It gives the game an immediately warm and cosy identity, while the beautiful presentation makes the whole experience feel incredibly inviting. Even though I was only playing the demo, I found it remarkably easy to settle into its world and simply enjoy being there.
🌼 Bottled by Bears isn't trying to overwhelm you with complicated systems or constant demands for attention. Its appeal, at least from what I experienced in the demo, comes from its simplicity and atmosphere. It is gentle, charming and exactly the sort of game I can imagine leaving open while occasionally checking back to see how my little bear family is getting on.
💜 My time with the demo was obviously only an early look at what Bottled by Bears may eventually become, but it left a very strong impression on me. I encountered nothing that spoiled the experience and came away wanting considerably more than the demo could offer. If the full game continues to build on what is already here, I can see this becoming something very special for cosy and idle game fans.
Bottled by Bears is absolutely going onto my list of games to keep watching, and based on the wonderfully relaxing experience I had with the demo, it gets a full 💜 Tom Recommends from me.
Sometimes you don't need explosions, complicated strategies or a hundred things happening at once.
Sometimes you just need bears, bees and honey. 🐻🐝🍯
