About The Game

💻 Code Tycoon is a management simulation where you begin in 1980 with little more than a computer, a garage and a dream of building a successful software company. Taking on contracts, completing projects and carefully managing your finances gradually allows your small business to grow into something much larger.

⚙️ As the days pass, new programming languages, technologies and opportunities become available, encouraging you to adapt alongside the changing software industry. Hiring developers, training specialists, expanding your office and balancing workloads all become increasingly important as your company grows. The game spans more than forty years of computing history, giving a satisfying sense of long-term progression.

🚀 Every project requires careful planning as you implement features, fix bugs and keep clients happy before deadlines expire. Building a good reputation unlocks larger contracts and more ambitious projects, while poor decisions can quickly slow your company's progress. It creates an enjoyable blend of strategy, time management and business simulation.

Tom's Verdict

💜 I struggled quite a bit during my first few minutes with Code Tycoon because the game doesn't hold your hand very much. Once I started understanding how everything fitted together though, I found myself genuinely enjoying the challenge of running my own software company. It ended up being far more rewarding than those first impressions suggested.

🖥️ One thing I particularly liked was how authentic the gameplay felt. Managing projects, prioritising work, fixing bugs and trying to keep clients satisfied genuinely reminded me of a busy working environment. It can become surprisingly stressful at times, but in a way that suits the game perfectly rather than becoming frustrating.

☕ My biggest criticism is the size of some of the on-screen text, which I found difficult to read at times. I passed this feedback on to the developer because I think improving readability would make the game more accessible. Even so, I came away impressed by the demo and I'm looking forward to playing the full game.
