Tom's Verdict
๐ฆ Dodo Duckie took me back to a type of game I used to play far more often than I do nowadays. Platformers aren't really one of my regular genres anymore, and I'll freely admit that my platforming skills aren't quite what they once were, but every so often it's nice to return to themโand this little duck gave me a very enjoyable reason to do exactly that.
๐ The ability to switch between 2D and 3D is easily the standout feature for me. It takes a little while to get your head around because you're not simply moving through a traditional platforming level; you also need to consider whether changing perspective might reveal the solution. Once I started understanding what the game wanted from me, I really enjoyed the idea.
๐งฉ That doesn't mean I suddenly rediscovered the platforming abilities of my younger years! Around 30 minutes into the tutorial I reached a challenge that completely stopped me in my tracks. I tried, failed, tried again... and eventually decided to throw the challenge over to anyone watching my gameplay instead. If you can get past where I couldn't, you're already a better Dodo than I am. ๐
๐ฝ There's a lovely charm to the whole thing as well. Dodo is an instantly likeable little character, the premise of heading off to rescue his abducted friends is wonderfully silly, and the colourful presentation suits the adventure perfectly.
๐ฎ It's important to remember that my experience and this review are based on the demo, rather than the complete adventure. The full version has since released, so there is now considerably more Dodo Duckie waiting for anyone who enjoys what the demo has to offer.
๐ For me, Dodo Duckie earns a Worth a Look for this demo version. It may not be the sort of game I'm likely to start speedrunning anytime soon, but I enjoyed my time with it, liked the clever 2D/3D mechanic and had fun right up until my ageing platformer skills finally waved the white flag. ๐ฆ๐ณ๏ธ๐

Why I Liked This Game
- โ ๐ฆ Charming main character โ Dodo is immediately likeable, and the wonderfully silly mission to rescue his abducted friends gives the adventure plenty of personality.
- โ ๐ Clever 2D and 3D switching โ Changing between perspectives is much more than a visual gimmick and becomes an important part of navigating the world.
- โ ๐งฉ Interesting puzzle design โ Challenges encourage you to think differently about your surroundings and consider whether changing dimension might reveal the solution.
- โ ๐จ Bright and colourful presentation โ The cheerful graphical style fits Dodo and his unusual adventure perfectly.
- โ ๐ฎ A nice return to platforming โ Platformers aren't normally my thing these days, but I genuinely enjoyed revisiting a genre I played far more when I was younger.
- โ ๐ก Easy concept with plenty to master โ The basic idea doesn't take long to understand, but actually putting it into practice can provide a surprisingly good challenge.
What I Didn't Like In This Game
- โ ๐ค The perspective switching can initially be confusing โ It took me a little while to get used to thinking about each challenge in both 2D and 3D.
- โ ๐งฑ Some challenges can stop you in your tracks โ I eventually reached one during the tutorial that I simply couldn't overcome, although I'll happily concede that my platforming skills probably deserve some of the blame! ๐
- โ ๐ฆ My time was limited to the demo โ The full game is now available, so my experience doesn't cover everything Dodo's complete adventure has to offer.
