Tom's Verdict
I absolutely loved Birdwatching Notebook. As someone who genuinely enjoys watching the birds that visit my own garden, this felt like a natural fit for me. It's one of those rare games that simply helps you relax, asking nothing more than the occasional visit while rewarding you with new birds and a steadily improving sanctuary.
The combination of cosy decorating, idle progression and incremental mechanics works brilliantly. Watching your little corner of nature gradually come to life is surprisingly satisfying, and I found myself regularly checking back just to see which new visitors had appeared.
If I had one suggestion for the developer, it would be to introduce optional regional bird packs featuring species from places like the UK, Europe, North America and Australia. Seeing birds that are familiar to players around the world would make an already wonderful experience even more personal. I'd also love to see an optional full-screen mode in the future. Neither of those suggestions stopped me thoroughly enjoying the game though, making this an easy 💜 Tom Recommends.
