Tom's Verdict
๐ฐ As someone who has played a lot of Tower Defence games over the years, I'm always interested when a developer tries something a little different. Radical Tower Defense doesn't simply follow the traditional formula of placing towers and waiting for the next wave. Instead, it encourages experimentation through its core chip system, allowing you to create different builds and approach each run in your own way.
๐งฉ The playtest only offered three areas to explore, but that was enough to demonstrate the game's potential. I enjoyed trying different strategies, seeing how the chip combinations affected each run and discovering how the mechanics worked together. It still feels recognisably like a Tower Defence game, yet it has enough fresh ideas to stand apart from many others in the genre.
โ๏ธ What impressed me most was that the game never felt like it was changing things simply for the sake of being different. The new mechanics naturally complement the strategic gameplay rather than replacing it, giving you meaningful decisions to make throughout each run.
๐ I'm looking forward to seeing how the full release develops. If the developers continue building on the ideas shown in this playtest, Radical Tower Defense has every chance of becoming a memorable addition to the genre. For Tower Defence fans looking for something that feels both familiar and refreshingly different, this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
